My name is Pawel Rozek. I was born in Krakow, Poland and when I was 13 years of age, I came to Kitchener, Canada.
When I arrived to Canada, I had a really hard time adjusting to my new life. As we immigrated in search for a better life, we found ourselves with what we could carry in our 2 suitcases. I managed to get into Grade 8 at the St Francis Elementary school in Kitchener. Currently that school has been transformed into a community center for young kids. My wife and I take our son there on Saturday mornings for an opportunity for him to observe and play with other kids.
After completing elementary school, it was time for high school. I ended up choosing Resurrection Catholic Secondary School (in short REZ) where I met most of my friends. High school was challenging for me as I was still learning English, however, that is where I was introduced to computers. My interest in computers spiked immensely, and lead me into the field. I chose courses that helped me get into university, to the computer science field.
I have completed my Bachelors of Science (B.Sc.) at University of Wilfrid Laurier in Waterloo. While working part time, I managed to juggle work and school as well as some social outings with friends. I have learned programming in different languages, mainly Java and C++ but also touched on older languages such as Lysp, Cobol and Assembly. Other than programming, I learned different algorithms, software security and different methods for strategic thinking, which helped me get started on my career in computer science. Since I graduated, I have been in the Computer Science field, and learned that schooling can get you started in life, but nothing can prepare you for work in real life, but with the positive attitude and outlook as well as eagerness to learn new things, you can do anything you set your mind to.
After graduating from university, like many other students, I had couple of student loans to pay off. My parents encouraged me not to worry about it, and take some time to relax. We have made a trip back home to Poland to see how things have changed in the 11 years that I haven’t been there. It was great to see my hometown and my family and friends back home, although many things have changed. That trip has opened my eyes to travel. It has become my hobby to travel, and since I’ve been to quite a few places. My travel profile is not huge, however I’m very grateful to have seen a few places in this world.
My other passion is learning new things in computer world. I’ve setup a couple of linux servers, including the one that this WordPress website is hosted on that is running on Apache Web Server with MySQL database server. With some research and trial and error, I’ve successfully managed to bring this site up and running, and I’m extremely happy with the outcome and with the ease of creating websites with WordPress. My last website was built right from scratch by writing every line of the HTML code. It was extremely difficult and time consuming as I had no experience in coding. I must say that it is much easier now to create websites that are fun.
Thanks for coming to my site, and I hope that you enjoyed reading my story.
